Álvaro Siza Vieira was born in Matosinhos, Portugal in 1933. He studied architecture at the Universtity of Porto until 1955, to then start collaborating with the architect Fernando Távora. By the end of the '50s he opens his own studio and creates the Casa del Tè in Leça da Palmeira. He received many award during his carreer like the Golden Medal in Architecture in 1988, the Pritzker Prize in 1992, the Wolf Award in the arts in 2001, RIBA's Royal Gold Medal in 2009, the Leone d'Oro to the Carreer during the 13th International Architecture show in Venice in 2012.
